Skyr

Yes the true breakfast of champions has got to be "Skyr" a special icelandic milk product. For some strange reason they have not been able to produce this wonder product from any other milk in the world. Kind of makes me wonder about these icelandic cows, but Im much pleased with those lazy, grass chewing, no good animals...

This product is just great, high in protein and very slim on the fat. This actually walks all over a box of Wheates, I dont care who is on the freakin box !!!

Skyr is an Icelandic soured dairy product thicker than yoghurt. It was once prepared in other Scandinavian countries, but is presently unique to Icelandic cuisine.
Traditionallly, skyr was made by heating skimmed milk to 90°-100°C and pasteurised (not completely though, skyr bacteria like Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus and probably some others remained). Then skyr condenser — basically just some good skyr used to ignite bacteria growth — and rennet was added, and the milk was left to coagulate. The skyr was then strained through fabric and the by-product - whey - removed.
Skyr, in its traditional preparation, has no added flavors beyond the ingedients mentioned above. Recently, Icelandic manufacturers of Skyr have added flavors such as vanilla, berry and other flavorings common to yoghurt to the final product, to increase its appeal.
Skyr is a very popular health product in Iceland and was recently introduced to the US in selected MID ATLANTIC Whole Foods Market stores.

I saw the light

I might have mentionned in one of my bloggs that I was realizing more and more what a sacrifice a medical education can be. Cause quite frankly when I was younger I thought 6 years was an eternity. And right before last x-mas, I was like what have I been doing for the past 3 years...

But this weekend I was looking through the school syllabus or bulletin and I realized that its almost over. Or not exactly over but I realized how far I have come and a lot of the pieces are comming together. Now I really feel that I want to know more and more and the information is starting to become applicable.

Its really maturing and just good stuff, so for anyone who is questioning themselves about doing what Im doing, give it a chance... its not for everyone but its working out great for me...

Back to school Party

Yes, the rain finally cleared up and I seemed to be ready for some partying. Took most of the snow away too and Im really praying for spring to be here..

I just realized today that there were actually 2 back to school parties. I was always waiting for the peeps from my house to show up, they said they were comming. But i never bumped into them. Find out this morning that they were all at EGO and myself at Genius...

Ógeðs Veður

Im a little under the weather today or to be more precise the rain here is drowning me. Didnt get off to a good start, I overslept my only class today. I woke up 15 mins before it started but with a quick look at my window, raining cats and dog. I called it off quickly.

Now wondering why I had overslept, only to find my alarm clock stuck inside one of my pillow cases. How that happened I cant say, must have been dreaming a good dream...

First week of school is finished, that was fast. They say that time only starts to go faster as the years go on, that I can agree with. So now a days im looking at my options, see what I can do for the next years...

Tonight there is a back to school party but truthfully if this rain keeps up im not likely to be going anywhere.. heheh I just like staying dry and warm at home... "heima er best"

If I do get out sometime tonite Ill be sure to take my camera companion with me to get a couple of images of the events.

Welcome Back Party

Went to the welcome back party last nite, well that is welcome if you are norwegian. Hombre and I were the only 2 non norwegian students there. How is that for a welcome.

We made it a good nite by going to our backyard place, Lovarda. Rescued the night...

Sure enough I didnt make it to my Pharmacology seminar in the morning but that is a minor casualty since its only the first week.. ..hehe

first day of school

I survived my first day of school, which isn´t saying much since I only had one class that I had to go... hahah

But a new record was broken, I not only showed up but I also made it to the library to study for a couple of hours, well an 1/2 hour nap and rest studying. But that is has never happened in my entire academic career... i might be on to something here. This Slovenian trip had some stimulating effect...

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all that joined me in Slovenia, great time all around. This event has really set in and become an annual thing and I couldnt to it without you guys...

As I write this im putting in all of my trooper pictures from the past week, decided to edit some just for courtesy sake. But I think the feel for the trip is evident, with the additions of some captions.

Slovenian Ride'em/Party Tour 2006

Yes, Im finally back from a very entertaining trip to Slovenia. Great times all around. The ride'em tour ended up as quite the party.

Slovenia gets top marks in my books and fortunately or unfortunately really made me ask myself questions like "what the hell am I doing in Hungary". Ladies and gentlemen, that is how good it was down there. People were nice and spoke english, I know that seems as a given in most countries but its lacking here in my neck of the woods. No intention of bashing my surrounding here but come on ...

I promise to put in some more pics this week, cause there are tons of them. Only I had taken 155 images on my little trooper camera...

Day 2

This day provided a much bigger mountain and better conditions. still no fresh snow but a good times keep rolling in. Im just still amazed that I was able to get up in the morning and still fell like a million bucks on the mountain, because the drinking from the previous nite was not to be called kidstuff....

But im falllin for this city more and more, its just got a little bit of everything without being a gargantuan city. Just a nice little mix with some well planned architecture and a river running through it.

Cant wait to put in the pictures, they are going to speak for it all...

Day 1

After the longest bus ride of my life we all finally arrived extremely excited in Ljubljana. Great first impression, check in with our snowboarading guides and pack up in Alibi Hostel. One fine hostel at that, all of us are staying in one huge room with 30 bunkbeds. The girls were smart enough to part from the boys and get their own room, good move there girls.

First day in the mountain was nice, small slopes but a good warm up. Riding a snowboard is like rideing a bike, you know it once you always know it.

First nite out it was time to check the scenery which was not bad at all. Ended up finding a college club&bar which had everything we were looking for. Cheap drinks, good music and full of peoples. One beer became 10 and good times rolled.

Pictures are comming in as soon as i get back to Hungay and there are going to be tons of them, lots of digital cameras all around...

3 days to Slovenia

Yes its getting real close to the annual snowboarding trip... I have been in contact with the Slovenain crew to make sure that things run as smooth as possible.

One problem is that they would like to receive cash payment in euros upon arrival. I was asking for some alternative because people are flying in from all directions and I wanted some more convenient payment method.

The price; 165 accomodation, 60 snow shuttle

downpayment 50

amount due: 175 euros (plus 115 for rental = 290 euros)

Another funny thing is that I have been given two dates, that i just noticed. So we are staying to either tilll the 11th or 12th, that is in check. Because the bus thinks we are going back on the 11th...
