Midnite Sun Open Catastrophe

Im finally back from my weekend journey around the southeast of Iceland with Zita. The trip started on friday and sails were set for laugarás, where Kristín Lilja is providing her medical services for the summer. the plan was to join this midnite golf tournament and we sure did. before tee off at around eight it was just freezing cold and everything got worse from there. the golfing was horrible, the whole group was not up to par. I sucked scoring a career high triple X, for those that don'tnt know what an X is in golf; it´s when you don´t finish a whole because there is no chance of gaining points. On top of all this it started raining and I just wanted to get home... Looking a lot like Tin Cup in the movie, trying 3 times to cross the water at 180 meters unsuccesfully, instead of taking the safe bet.

next day we were off to Vík í Mýrdal, to see our other beloved doctor friend Hanna. It also did not start well. the weather was terrible and Hann calls up when we are about 30 mins away and says "oh, there has been an emergency and I have to go to reykjavík with the ambulance!". we are talking almost 200 km one way. So I was thinking "great a real rainy day at Vík just sitting around for 4 hours waiting for hanna". As Im thinking this the ambulance flies by going the other direction.
luckily as soon as we get to Vík Hanna calls and says that she is comming back. We hang out for the nite. the next day is our biggest tourist day checking out most of the extravegant sites in the bright summer weather.

I recommend checking out the new pics in the photospace "sjón er sögu ríkari"

back in the grind...

It seems that I have landed here in Iceland and settled in again, it always takes me some time to realize that I am back at home. Life is taking on that "normal" form, you know wake up, go to work, come home, golfing, watching tv ... etc...

I must say that another summer at the old nursing home is not exactly the dream position to be in, like I stated earlier is that it was going to be a long summer. It?s just such a U-turn to come from an hectic exam period to a tsjill job.

It seems obvious to me that the growing obesity problem in the western world is a true reality, Iceland being no exception. It is always more striking when you leave and come back. I think without any further research that about 80% of women above 30 years are overweight. Then there are the younger fat girls who have no feeling for their weight and still wear the same tops and pants they did when they were infants or thinner !

but the top of the iceberg must be one woman at work who has been admitted to an elderly home just because of her weight, we are talking body mass index (BMI) in the low 60?s. For those not familiar with BMI, the calculation is as follows
BMI = ( Weight in Kilograms / ( Height in Meters ) x ( Height in Meters ) )

BMI
Weight Status
Below 18.5 Underweight
18.5 ? 24.9 Normal
25.0 ? 29.9 Overweight
30.0 and Above Obese

so this is extreme obesity, it resembles more a cube meter than anything else..

Tuesday

first day on the job...

robert mar was back at work at his old job on monday. it must be reported that mixed feelings were flowing through his body as he got acustomed to the o so familiar situation. some were just like "Oh its so go to be home" and others "who the hell are these people in my house ???". so there are some new faces around and many that have left us for good, hence some passed away.
robert mar´s first task at his old job was what is considered by him as the "shittiest" part of the job, he wants this quote to be all of the explanation following this story. First room he enters he soon realizes that "EXPLORATION" is required. he took a deep breath, doubled up on the latex and begun. for those who dont know what this procedure consists of refer to sentence one of this paragraph and fill in the blanks.

Robert mar thought to himself "its gonna be a long summer" after this he continued on his way.

from the mind of robert mar

p.s. for those of you that prefer the picture story of everything must realize that in this case it is highly inappropriate.

Back to work

yes, school is out for the summer and I have a 3 month vacation ahead, that is if you consider working at an nursing home a vacation. It feels good to be home but really strange to not have anyting to do ???
the intensity back in debrecen was so high during the exam period that its almost hard to allow yourself to sit back and relax. Luckily I have had 6 days after my last exam to wind down before going back to work. I will be working in the same place as last summer, in Grindavík, which is actually a real comfortable place where I know the wraps and everything will be smooth. The one downside is that I had applied for a nursing position at the same place but was denied by the administration of the hospital, which runs the place I work. It has taken some time to accept this decision or I have not accepted it because there has been no good reasoning for this.

A great bonus to this trip back home is that my girlfriend, Zita, could join me this time for the summer. She has got a job setup and everything starting 2mro.

I want to wish all of my colleagues the best of luck in finishing their exams !!!
