back in the grind...

It seems that I have landed here in Iceland and settled in again, it always takes me some time to realize that I am back at home. Life is taking on that "normal" form, you know wake up, go to work, come home, golfing, watching tv ... etc...

I must say that another summer at the old nursing home is not exactly the dream position to be in, like I stated earlier is that it was going to be a long summer. It?s just such a U-turn to come from an hectic exam period to a tsjill job.

It seems obvious to me that the growing obesity problem in the western world is a true reality, Iceland being no exception. It is always more striking when you leave and come back. I think without any further research that about 80% of women above 30 years are overweight. Then there are the younger fat girls who have no feeling for their weight and still wear the same tops and pants they did when they were infants or thinner !

but the top of the iceberg must be one woman at work who has been admitted to an elderly home just because of her weight, we are talking body mass index (BMI) in the low 60?s. For those not familiar with BMI, the calculation is as follows
BMI = ( Weight in Kilograms / ( Height in Meters ) x ( Height in Meters ) )

BMI
Weight Status
Below 18.5 Underweight
18.5 ? 24.9 Normal
25.0 ? 29.9 Overweight
30.0 and Above Obese

so this is extreme obesity, it resembles more a cube meter than anything else..
