General Surgery

I have finished my first week of general surgery and after a slow start I start to imagine my medical career as a surgeon. The first couple of days were a little bit slow. I have made a decision not to run around the surgery ward just to watch as many surgeries as possible. I have a slight problem with the pecking order going from Specialsist, ward doctors, kandidates to med students. It seems quite logical as I write it here but being the last in line is something that always gets to me.

So my plan is to learn as much about surgery outside of the OR and then capitalize on the few oppertunites that offer. I have already figured some times which are better than others, like on fridays, and getting to know the scrub nurses. Because if you are in with the nurses then things almost take care of themselves. Plus with time the doctors realize that you have something between your ears and see how you handle different things they become interested in teaching you things.

Whole lesson here as in many others is PATIENCE !!! which im guessing is going to be a life long goal.
