Cats and Dogs

and NO I am not talking about the rain here in Iceland, even though its really starting to take its toll on everyone.

my story today is that I met a special person last nite, she was the cab driver that took me on the night shift. It is really a luxury to ride in a cab to work everyday. Once I enter the car I have the choice of sparking an easy chat or just to sit there and read or think the 20 mins to work.

Last nite I was in the chatting mood, the cab driver was new or just filling in for someone. I start off with some neutral chat and she soon pick up on philosophical issues. I could see and even feel immediately that this woman was not like most other, she had an outstanding presence about her.

One idea that I would like to introduce is the following; on the issue of family and marriage in iceland, she quickly concluded that Men were like dogs and Women like cats. The backup to this is that about 100 years ago icelanders crawled out of their grass roof homes and started to seek a new enviroment. this adaptation exceeded most limits and people became crazed for cleanliness and hence the removal of animal as they were connected to filth. Old times were crowded small houses where the smell of the nearby animal was definetly not unnoticed.

To continue, she stated that the animals were moving back into the homes in the dog and cat like personas. The main point being is that many things are to be learned from these characters. The Dog an honest simple being, readily readable and always turning back to its owner versus the Cat which walks around as it pleases requesting attention when desired, walking away when displeased and behaving self-dependent.

Just imagine the fight to please the cat when you never really know what it´s intentions are, playing a hold me - release me game.

At the exact moment I was pondering these new ideas in my head I thought "damn I hate cats" and once the cards were all played out I had to ask myself "does that mean I hate women"...

the answer is of course NO, but reinstates that there is a lot to be learned from our furry little friends.

In conclusion this anonymous cab driver bound some shadow of hope that these little friends of ours would be hope to better realtionships between men and women.
